Aloy will return. Hot on the heels of the release of the ‘Burning Shores’ expansion for last year’s acclaimed “Horizon: Forbidden West,” Guerrilla Games has indicated a new title is in the works for the franchise.
In an official message on their website, the company announces the promotion of studio director and executive producer Angie Smets who will now serve as head of development strategy at PlayStation Studios.
With a new leadership structure in place at Guerrilla Games, the developer says the new leads will “steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project.”
Both the second game and the recent expansion serve as the middle chapter in a trilogy with the next title to close out the story and follow Aloy, Sylens, the just introduced Seyka, and their teammates who must all come together to stop the corrupted A.I. system Nemesis which is en route across space to destroy Earth.
The extent of Sylens’ role isn’t clear. The late Lance Reddick portrayed the character in the first two games and so he will either have to be recast or have his character written out.
Critics praised the new ‘Burning Shores’ release, however, the title is being review bombed on Metacritic by users over a perceived ‘political’ slant – namely over a romantic subplot for Aloy.
