Capcom’s acclaimed “Resident Evil 4” remake is breaking records for the franchise in its launch.
The game was released yesterday on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and according to SteamDB and has already hit a peak of 140,240 players in its first 24 hours – the franchise’s largest Steam launch ever by some margin. In its second day that has already risen to 168,191.
As a comparison “Resident Evil Village” peaked at 106,631 concurrent players on its launch day, “Resident Evil 2” remake hit 74,226, and “Resident Evil 3” peaked at 60,293.
To put it in comparison to other 2023 titles, the “Dead Space” remake launched to 30,925 concurrent players on Steam on its launch day.
However it’s dwarfed by the biggest release of the year by far, “Hogwarts Legacy,” which pulled in an insane peak of 879,000 concurrent players in its launch week – that peak makes it the eighth most concurrently played game of all time.
The game will receive a free update next month which adds The Mercenaries, a new mode that tasks players with killing as many enemies as possible within a time limit.
Capcom has also said it’s working on a fix for an issue that can cause flickering lights to appear in the PS5 version of the game.
