Official Trailer: Netflix’s “The Sandman” Series

Netflix has released the official trailer for its series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” comics which is coming to the service on August 5th. The original comic ran for 75 issues from 1989-1996.

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies.

But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever.

To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

Also starring are Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, Patton Oswalt as Matthew the Raven, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, and Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne. In addition, Mark Hamill was just announced as the voice of Merv Pumpkinhead.

New Line, Netflix and Warner Bros. Television are producing what is the most expensive TV series to date based on a DC Comics property. Allan Heinberg (“Wonder Woman,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) and David S. Goyer (“Foundation,” “Batman Begins”) are writing the series with Heinberg serving as showrunner.

“The Sandman” will arrive on August 5th.
