The latest Japanese charts are in and we’re covering a slightly longer period of time here from 26th December, 2022 to 8th January, 2023, so keep that in mind as you ruminate over the figures below.

Surprising no one, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet finds itself in first place once again, bringing in an additional 291,322 copies to make up a cumluative total of 4,630,253 – that’s insane. Splatoon 3 isn’t too far behind, mind, selling an impressive 107,700 copies to make up a total of 3,795,514. We’d comfortably wager that Splatoon 3 will be passing the 4 million mark in a few weeks.

Otherwise, it’s business as usual for Nintendo here, with many of its star players making an appearance in the top ten, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Here’s the top ten in full for the period of 26th December, 2022 to 8th January, 2023:

  1. [NSW] Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet (The Pokemon Company, 11/18/22) – 291,322 (4,630,253)

  3. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo, 04/28/17) – 68,772 (5,083,147)

  6. [PS5] Gran Turismo 7 (SIE, 03/04/22) – 38,892 (256,905)
  7. [NSW] Minecraft (Microsoft, 06/21/18) – 37,443 (2,997,449)

  10. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo, 12/07/18) – 27,550 (5,092,741)

Looking at hardware for the week, the Switch OLED Model is storming ahead of the pack, selling a total of 142,789 units for the period. Much like Splatoon 3, the console SKU is closing in on 4 million units sold in Japan, which is a fantastic milestone for Nintendo. Elsewhere, the PS5 is selling well, indicating that the stock shortages apearing to be easing off even more as we welcome 2023.

Poor Xbox Series X, though… Microsoft’s flagship console sold less than half the amount of New 2DS LL consoles over the course of the period. It’s a sad sight, to be sure.

  1. Switch OLED Model – 142,789 (3,714,801)
  2. PlayStation 5 – 75,296 (2,135,241)
  3. Switch – 58,941 (19,107,282)
  4. Switch Lite – 48,988 (5,152,682)
  5. PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 9,860 (327,304)
  6. PlayStation 4 – 4,128 (7,846,172)
  7. Xbox Series S – 1,539 (227,523)
  8. New 2DS LL (including 2DS) – 419 (1,190,130)
  9. Xbox Series X – 200 (172,611)
