HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston police are looking for two suspects who fled the scene of a deadly crash where shots were fired in southwest Houston.
On Monday, the Houston Police Department said the crash happened at about 1 p.m. near Blue Ridge at W. Fuqua.
Lt. Bryan Bui said the suspects were driving a white Jetta when they were chasing a gray Mercedes near 16500 Blue Ridge.
Investigators said the suspect fired at least 10 shots with a rifle and a pistol before they crashed and hit a tree. Bui said police don’t believe that the driver of the Mercedes was firing shots back.
SkyEye was above the scene, where the police could be seen setting up a perimeter near the wreck after the two suspects took off north of Blue Ridge into a nearby neighborhood.
Law enforcement, including a helicopter and K-9 officers, were searching for the suspects but said they weren’t able to find them.
Police haven’t disclosed how the shooting evolved, but an officer told ABC13 that the caller heard shots being fired before seeing the two cars collide.
HPD initially told Eyewitness News that one person was taken to the hospital. In an update, Bui said the driver of the Mercedes died.
Bui said police are investigating whether a third vehicle was involved and if the Mercedes driver knew the suspects.
It is unclear if the driver died as a result of the shooting or from the impact of the crash.
