Couple kidnapped at gunpoint, held hostage while hiking in Jeffco

JEFFERSON COUNTY (KDVR) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after two hikers were kidnapped at gunpoint and held hostage on Friday morning.

It happened near Bear Creek Lake near South Oak Way and South Newcombe Way before 9 a.m. The couple, in their 40s, was confronted by a man with a gun. The suspect wrapped something around the woman’s neck and led her and her husband away.

Another hiker witnessed the kidnapping and called 911.

At some point, the woman’s husband was able to get the gun away from the suspect. Around the same time, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene.

Before the suspect was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office said he pulled a taser on one of the deputies. The sheriff’s office said that because they did not know what was being pointed at them, they fired a shot at the suspect. He was not hit.

At that point, another deputy tased the suspect and took him into custody.

The suspect’s identity has not been released.
