In nature, hummingbirds are almost constantly in movement — their wings pulsing so quick it’s unusual to capture a superior glimpse.
In Cheri Lee Charlton’s mural in Lincoln Park, however, the speedy, minimal birds are frozen in time.
“I appeared at capturing the wings in a nonetheless way as an option to perform with repetition and use decoration in every single feather,” suggests Charlton, who painted the mural past calendar year on a constructing at 1538 N. Clybourn Ave.
She selected hummingbirds because the mural, which she titled “Hummingbird Aspiration,” is outdoors a Mexican cafe at the NEWCITY searching center, and the birds are noticed as an omen of good fortune in Mexican lifestyle.
“It was significant for me to locate cultural influence,” says Charlton, 41, who lives in Uptown.
She also appreciated that the hummingbirds could be observed as a “metaphor” for the “success” of the restaurant as it ready to open.
The mural features contrasting blues and yellows bursting from the heart, with the birds to either facet.
She sees the art as an “immediate explosion of positivity and color and joy.”
As with all her murals, the California-born, Ohio-raised artist states she wished to “reward viewership” for people who adhere around to acquire a closer glimpse.
